I get quite a bit of stuff on my desk, and let’s be honest—we’ve all seen it all before, in one way or another. But when you come across a band that’s just as at home in fantasy worlds as it is in the rehearsal room, you’ve got to take a closer look. And that’s exactly where Bosparan’s Fall comes in: The band from the Allgäu has some new music out, and if that isn’t a good reason to ask them a few questions, then I don’t know what is!
Shieldmaiden’s Voice: Shakespeare wrote, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” As an RPG Melodic Death Metal band, do you see yourselves in that quote, and if so, why?
Bosparan’s Fall: Definitely. To us, the stage is more than a place to play music – it’s a gateway to another world. During a concert, we’re not just five musicians from southern Germany; we’re heroes, villains, bards, and storytellers. And if the audience travels to Aventuria with us for an hour, we’ve done everything right.
SV: How did the idea of making the band more “nerdy” come about?
Bosparan’s Fall: Honestly, it wasn’t really a conscious decision. We were nerds long before we started a band. Tabletop RPGs, fantasy novels, video games, and metal have always gone hand in hand for us. At some point, we realized we could write much more authentically about these passions than about the hundredth drunken night out.
SV: Isn’t there already enough fantasy in metal?
Bosparan’s Fall: There’s also plenty of love songs on the radio, and people still keep writing new ones. Fantasy isn’t a genre – it’s a tool for storytelling. We don’t use it because it looks cool; we use it because it’s where we find the stories that truly inspire us.
SV: Which fantasy worlds would you most like to present to your listeners?
Bosparan’s Fall: Without a doubt, Aventuria. The Dark Eye has been part of our lives for decades. It’s an incredibly vivid world, full of history, conflict, and fascinating characters. At the same time, we hope our songs also resonate with people who have never heard of Aventuria before.
SV: What do you enjoy most about making your music?
Bosparan’s Fall: That moment when an idea turns into a story. It often starts with a melody, a scene, or a single sentence. From there, a song slowly takes shape. And of course, sharing those stories live with an audience is one of the greatest feelings imaginable.
SV: You’re about to release a new album. How does it differ from your previous releases?
Bosparan’s Fall: The interesting thing is that it doesn’t completely differ from our debut at all. Many bands write concept albums – we’re telling one story across three albums. “Gods‘ Game: Nameless Days” picks up directly after the events of “Dark Times” and continues the journey of our characters. Musically, we still move between melodic death metal, folk influences, and big cinematic moments. At the same time, the new album is noticeably darker. The threat is growing, the stakes are getting higher, and the story is moving toward events that could change the fate of Aventuria itself. To us, this album feels like the second chapter of a novel rather than a standalone book.
SV: What inspired you the most while writing this album?
Bosparan’s Fall: The story itself. Many songs grew out of the question: what does it feel like when you realize your entire world is falling apart? Beyond that, we drew inspiration from fantasy literature, roleplaying games, and historical events. And probably a little too much Beer (Farny Hell).
SV: If someone has never heard your music before, what can they look forward to most on this album?
Bosparan’s Fall: A journey. There are memorable melodies, heavy riffs, epic choruses, and a story that unfolds throughout the entire album. If you enjoy bands like Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, or Equilibrium and love immersive fantasy storytelling, you might feel right at home.
SV: You now have a new partner in Gottesrache Records. What do you hope to gain from this collaboration, and how will it help you move forward?
Bosparan’s Fall: Most importantly, a partner who understands our vision. We’re a rather unique mix of metal, fantasy, and storytelling. From our very first conversation, Gottesrache Records showed that they genuinely found that exciting. Together, we hope to reach more people and continue expanding the world of Bosparans Fall.
SV: What goals would you like to achieve with the new album?
Bosparan’s Fall: Of course, we’d love to reach more listeners, play bigger stages, and gain new fans. But even more important to us is that people experience the story and remember it. If someone finishes the album and says, “I need to know what happens to Alrik next,” then we’ve achieved our goal.
SV: What’s something you’ve always wanted to say in an interview but have never been asked about?
Bosparan’s Fall: We’d love for someone to ask us which Aventurian deity would host the best mosh pit. Our current ranking has Rondra firmly in first place, closely followed by Swafnir. Hesinde’s circle pits would probably be exceptionally well organized.
SV: If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
Bosparan’s Fall: We would finally bring the conflict between Andergast and Nostria to an end. By securing a decisive victory for Andergast. After centuries of conflict, it’s time to settle the matter once and for all. The banners would fly, the war horns would sound, and the chroniclers could finally stop pretending that there were ever two equally valid sides to this dispute.
